EVIDENCE-BASED CRITERIA
Designed by Shalin Khosla, Greehouse Specialist from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), each competition has a set of criteria which our official judges use to rate the produce.
EXPERT JUDGES
Every year, impartial chefs, grocery store managers and food critics lend us their expertise to see who will win the coveted crystal trophies in each product category and top overall for each competition.
UNBIASED PROCESS
Judges only see a number on each entry to ensure an unbiased result. They rate each entry by inputting a number for each pre-determined criteria on a list. The entry with the highest score for each category and of the overall competition are the winners.
OUR JUDGING PROCESS
Designed by Shalin Khosla, Greehouse Specialist from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), each competition has a set of criteria which our official judges use to rate the produce.
Every year, our official judges lend us their expertise to see who will take top in each category and top overall in either the Hottest Tomato, Perfect Pepper, Sweetest Strawberry and Coolest Cucumber competitions. In previous years our judges included Greenhouse Specialists from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs, Chefs from the Windsor Culinary Guild, Windsor Star food editors, Food Production Owner/Managers, and grocery managers from local Supermarkets such as No Frills, Fresh Co the Real Canadian Superstore and Metro.
These judges spend hours judging each entry. Each entry is only marked with a number to ensure an unbiased result and the judges rate each entry by entering numbers for each of the predetermined criteria on a list. As the judges finish a category, our head judges review the judging forms to ensure they are filled out completely and enter them into a database made especially for these competitions. The computer algorithm tabulates the results and the entry with the highest score for each category and of the overall competitions are the winners.
Once the official judging is complete, REACH International will announce the winners at our virtual awards ceremony. Details for the virtual awards ceremony will be posted here when they are available.
